In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the Historic Centre of Macao on the World Heritage List as well as the reinstatement of travel permit issuance for Mainland residents to Macao in late September, the Macao SAR Government will roll out a series of promotional activities themed as “Beijing-Macao Week” along Wangfujing Street in Beijing from 26 to 29 September. A mega roadshow will be staged, with themed zones introducing “Macao’s World Heritage, International Events and Cultural Tourism”, “International Sport Events”, “Macao – Creative City of Gastronomy”, and “Macao Tourism” and so forth, to showcase the latest information and features of Macao’s tourism, trade, culture, cuisine and other elements, and to attract Mainland residents to visit Macao.

Notably, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) will bring over 20 Macao enterprises to participate in the “MinM Made in Macao and Macao Brands Exhibition Zone” and “Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Exhibition Zone”, which will cover online sales, visual content creation and live streaming sessions by online influencers, graphic and video production and other elements to help enterprises expand markets and enhance brand awareness.

The eleven Macao companies will join the “MinM Made in Macao and Macao Brands Exhibition Zone”, showing products ranging from pastry, noodles, coffee, beer, white wine, preserved fruit, sauce and vegetable syrup. An exhibitor specialising in Macao’s traditional noodles hopes their products can serve as a bridge for cultural communication to deepen the understanding of Mainland people about the culinary culture of Macao. An exhibitor specialising in preserved fruits and sauces wishes to attract investment and understand the new expectations and demands of the market for their products. A beer manufacturer hopes that more customers can feel Macao’s charisma and have better travel experience by drinking their products.

In addition, there are eleven Macao enterprises participating in the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Exhibition Zone”, mainly distributors or agents of products from Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs), including wine, brandy, natural essential oils, aromatic products and coffee beans. An exhibitor engaged in the import, export and wholesale of products from PSCs says that this is the company’s first publicity activity outside of Macao since the outbreak of COVID-19 as well as the first event the company participates in in Beijing. This exhibitor aims to promote novel products from PSCs to Mainland residents. Many exhibitors also wish to take the opportunity of the event to increase their product exposure, look for potential agents and suppliers via the platform created by the exhibition.

In addition to assisting exhibitors in providing online sales information, IPIM also strives to be more in line with Mainland residents’ habits of receiving information and making purchases. IPIM will work with the Macao Government Tourism Office and invite a number of online influencers on the Mainland and promote Macao brands and products from PSCs from multiple perspectives through various channels such as live streaming, visual content and script creation, as well as video making. The aim is to attract visitors to the e-commerce platforms, official websites and brick-and-mortar stores of these enterprises, and eventually expand their businesses more effectively.

The organisers of the Beijing-Macao Week are the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and the Dongcheng District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality. The coordinators are the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region in Beijing and Administrative Committee of Wangfujing of Dongcheng District of Beijing Municipality.
