[2020-04-03] Angola’s TAAG secures State guarantee to buy aeroplanes
The government of Angola has approved a guarantee of US$118 million for flagship carrier TAAG to buy aeroplanes, under a presidential decree dated 1 April, the international press reported.
The State guarantee is intended to allow TAAG to acquire six Dash 8 Q400 aircraft, “as part of the restructuring and diversification” of its fleet of aircraft.
The agreement will be concluded between the TAAG and the banking syndicate represented by ABSA Bank Limited.
The planes were ordered by the Angolan airline in June 2019, during the Paris Air Show.
The turbo-prop aircraft ordered by TAAG can carry 74 passengers and have a flight autonomy of 2,000 kilometres and a top speed of 666 kilometres per hour.
In August 2019, the chief executive of TAAG, Rui Carreira, said that the company would receive the six Dash 8 Q400 between January and February 2020.
Carreira also said that the new aircraft, with 72 seats and a unit cost of between US$34 million and US$38 million, would serve provincial and regional routes.
